Every little girl needs a place to stash their "pretties". Headbands and bows get lost so easily!
I had seen pictures of a clever solution on Pinterest. You know the one I'm talking about. Take a picture frame, put some ribbon behind it and clip those barrettes on! It serves 2 purposes: it organizes hair accessories and it makes cute wall art, both of which Emmy is in need of right now!
So, I decided to give it a whirl. It came out cute!
- How to make a hair accessory holder -
You will need:
1 picture frame with no glass and no back. Pick however big you want it to be.
1 inch wide ribbon. Make sure the roll has enough on it for your whole project. Mine had 5 yards and that was plenty.
Staple gun and staples
Picture hangers (if the frame doesn't already have them)
Hammer to nail the picture hangers in
Decorations for the frame and a way to attach them - I used a hot glue gun
First measure where you want your ribbon to go. Cut lengths of the ribbon accordingly. I cut about an inch extra on each side so I could fold it over to keep it from fraying.
Fold the end of the ribbon and attach it to the back side of the frame with staples. Make sure the frame is thick enough to handle the staples. I used 2-3 for each side of the ribbon, as I wanted it to be sturdy.
Stretch the ribbon as tight as you can get it, fold the ribbon over and staple the other end. It will not be perfect - don't sweat it.
Mark where you want your frame hangers to go and nail them it. Be sure they're equal or you will have a few choice words for yourself when it comes time to hang this thing!
Mark where you want your hooks to go in the bottom of the frame, and then screw them in. The wood on my frame was soft enough I could screw the hooks in by hand.
Decorate! I made some felt and fabric flowers and hot glued them on the frame.
Hang the frame and start organizing those "pretties"!
This is a fast, cheap project. I think this one cost me about $10 and took me 2 hours from start to finish. The frame was on clearance and I had some spray paint from another project here at the house. I had some fabric and felt scraps that I used for the flowers.
Em pretty much will only wear hats and headbands in her hair right now, so I'd better get going on some more headbands for her!
