Caden loves sea turtles. Seriously loves them. So when I offered to make sea turtle cupcakes for his birthday party he jumped at the chance.
That gave us a theme for his party, which made me happy! I scoured Pinterest for ideas, but what I found was kind of complicated. We have a new baby at home. Let's be real - simple was essential.
The most complicated part was the cupcakes. I made my strawberry cupcakes at the request of the birthday boy. I swapped the strawberry frosting for vanilla buttercream, piped it on flat and then smoothed it out with a knife and dipped it in crushed graham crackers to look like sand.
For the turtles, I made marshmallow fondant with the kids. We used cocoa powder for the brown shell and green food coloring for the turtle head and fins. It was a mess but the kids had a blast! I attached the fondant to the cupcake with a little frosting.
For the rest of the party I tried to stick with turtle-themed names for the foods:
The birthday boy was quite pleased, and everything tasted great!
Happy birthday Caden!
